Presidential Proclamation No. 413 series of 2012, Pres. PNoy Aquino declared September 26 every year as Save Sierra Madre Day.
Sierra Madre (which means mother mountain) is the longest mountain range in the Philippines spanning over 540 kilometers and 1.4 million hectares of land.
The Sierra Madre mountain ranges have been plagued by deforestation and destruction of natural habitat causing flooding and lose of habitat. The Sierra Madre has countless times been able to weaken the onslaught of typhoons in the Luzon area making it a natural barrier against typhoon calamities.
We hope that this proclamation pushes for protection, reforestation and rehabilitation.
